June Kuwahatt – An Illustrator Exploring Self-Expression in Harmony with Nature

[Tokyo] Inspired by the natural world, illustrator and photographer June Kuwahatt shares messages through her art that gently resonate with viewers, offering hints on how to live authentically and believe in oneself.

For many years, Kuwahatt lived under the weight of others’ expectations—“I must be a good girl,” “I have to be this way.” She lost sight of her true feelings, spending her days gauging the moods of those around her. But with a strong desire for change, she chose to face herself and reclaim control over her life.

“There is no right answer in life. The only person you can truly trust is yourself,” she says, emphasizing the importance of having the courage to take a step forward—even if it feels frightening—toward the direction one truly desires.

Kuwahatt also stresses another key lesson: don’t struggle alone. Reflecting on her past tendency to keep everything bottled up—believing “nobody will understand”—she now highlights the importance of expressing one’s feelings and asking for help. By opening her heart, she discovered the love around her and experienced the healing flow of emotional connection.

“I want people to honor their own feelings and senses, and to notice the small joys hidden in everyday life,” she says. Rather than comparing oneself to others, she advocates the value of walking at one’s own pace. In her artwork lies a wish: “I hope you remember that your true light—your very existence—is love itself.”

Kuwahatt’s message speaks to the struggles and inner conflicts many people face, offering guidance toward living brightly and authentically.
