Fujisawa City, Kanagawa / Online — Mizue Honma is dedicated to sharing the unique Japanese cultures of brush calligraphy and sai-zome (a hand-dyeing art symbolizing happiness) with the world. Driven by a strong conviction to “enrich the lives of everyone she meets and help them live happily,” Honma continues to expand her activities both locally and globally.
Her brush calligraphy, created with heartfelt words using a brush pen, offers people a way to become closer to the person they aspire to be by transforming their handwriting. Meanwhile, sai-zome calligraphy nurtures sensitivity and inner peace, allowing individuals to experience the joy of expressing emotions that lie deep within their hearts.
From September 30, 2025, the “Seeds of Excitement” exhibition will be held at Gallery C in Yokohama Minato Mirai. This special event will feature works by Honma and 22 like-minded collaborators. The exhibition aims to inspire visitors to discover their own “seeds of excitement” and find hints to enrich their lives. Additionally, free hands-on workshops will be available from October 1 to 4, offering newcomers the chance to experience brush calligraphy and sai-zome in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Honma’s mission extends beyond traditional calligraphy or art classes. Having grown up in Usa City, Oita Prefecture, she dreams of creating a “Festival Cruising” journey across Japan with fellow festival enthusiasts. This vision reflects her belief in connecting people through culture and enriching lives together.
The upcoming exhibition marks an important first step in Honma’s journey to bring the cultures of brush calligraphy and sai-zome beyond Japan and onto the world stage.
