TOKYO — Michelle, known on social media as michelle_guj2025, has concluded her challenging and rewarding journey as a finalist in the Global Unity Japan (GUJ) 2025 national competition, held on November 2nd.
An English Coach/Interpreter by profession, Michelle entered the contest with the primary motivation of becoming a figure of strength for her daughter. As she stated in a social media post, her greatest desire was for her beloved daughter to say, “Mom, you look cool.”
Despite not advancing to the world competition, Michelle proudly secured a spot in the Top 16. She reflects on her participation with a clean conscience, believing she gave her all and that her efforts were far from futile.
“Instead of settling for the status quo, I wanted to try something new,” Michelle shared, a feeling that had long resided deep in her heart. She acknowledged not being naturally confident but aimed to gain a stronger sense of self-acceptance through this experience.
Beyond the competitive results, she highlighted the invaluable connections and lessons learned during the process, which she considers an irreplaceable asset that will enrich her life going forward. Michelle also expressed her hope to teach both her daughter and others that “no matter your age or position, you can still challenge yourself.”
She concluded her post by extending her gratitude to her team members, supporters, instructors, OG members, and the organizers of the contest.
