Yuko, a contestant at the Global Unity Japan (GUJ) 2025 event, recently shared a deeply touching and surprising account of her experience on social media. She recounted her initial feeling of loneliness, as she had no one coming to support her on the day of the contest due to her family business demanding work even on Sundays.
Feeling a sense of “it wouldn’t hurt to ask,” she reached out to a woman she knew from an online course, someone she had never met in person despite interacting on Zoom. To Yuko’s utter surprise, the woman immediately responded with, “I will come cheer you on!!”
This support turned out to be incredibly significant. Not only did her friend show up, but she also presented Yuko with a bouquet of flowers. A staff member called out, “Is Ms. Ohkuchi (Yuko’s likely last name) here?” when handing over the flowers, a moment Yuko described with playful embarrassment.
The supportive interactions continued throughout the event. During the opening act, Yuko easily spotted her friend waving enthusiastically from the audience table. Furthermore, at the end of the event, as Yuko was leaving the waiting area, a person called out, “Ms. Ohkuchi! You are Yuko Ohkuchi, right?” This encounter was particularly memorable, as it happened despite the presence of about 300 people and with no prior arrangement.
Yuko expressed immense gratitude for this wonderful experience, noting that her friend also took a video of her walking on stage. The post concluded with heartfelt thanks, highlighting the profound positive impact of this unexpected support.
