Saki Ohashi, a pianist and former child support worker, has issued a candid reflection on career transitions and personal accountability. In a recent statement marking her continued participation in the “Diamond Mind” self-development program, Ohashi emphasized that taking the next step in life—and accepting the consequences—is entirely one’s own responsibility.
The Philosophy of Self-Reliance
Ohashi argues that starting new endeavors requires accepting that failure is a possibility and that the outcome is always self-inflicted. She believes this mindset is crucial for resilience, allowing individuals to engage in trial and error without halting their progress.
“No one else is going to manage my life for me. It is my life, so I am the only one who can live it,” Ohashi stated. She stressed that believing in one’s own power is the only path to moving forward.
A Stark Career Contrast
This realization stems from a recent, jarring career shift. After leaving a previous job due to unexpected company circumstances, Ohashi registered with a temporary staffing agency to secure immediate living expenses. Admitting that she did not deliberate deeply on the decision, she accepted a high-paying office position.
The transition proved to be a significant culture shock. Ohashi compared her current situation to her previous work in child support. In her former role, she operated without a manual, relying on critical thinking and personal judgment to provide the best possible care in a dynamic environment.
In contrast, her new workplace consists of strictly manualized tasks involving computers and telephones, with almost no meaningful human interaction.
Confronting a Toxic Environment
Ohashi described the office atmosphere as shocking. She observed that her colleagues appeared to find no fulfillment in their work, instead spending their time finding faults and attacking one another.
“I never imagined that the employees in such a seemingly desirable office environment would be so mentally exhausted,” she remarked.
However, Ohashi maintains a strict stance on personal accountability. She acknowledges that she was the one who chose to enter this environment focused solely on the salary, without considering the future implications.
Moving Forward
Refusing to be influenced by the negativity, Ohashi expressed her determination to leave the environment before she becomes a “rotten orange”—a metaphor for being corrupted by toxic surroundings.
Her stated goal is to prioritize her own happiness and maintain control over her own mental state. As she continues her personal development journey, Ohashi is resolving to exit her current role and pursue a path aligned with her well-being.
