As December begins, it is a time for reflection and self-reward. For LYL Nagao, a versatile artist based in Tokyo, this recently meant an inspiring journey to Okinawa with a group of fellow female vocalists.
Artistry runs deep in Nagao’s blood, as she comes from a lineage of painters starting with her grandfather. While she honors this heritage through oil painting, she has also embraced the digital age, establishing herself as a professional web designer for two decades and creating contemporary digital art. Her musical influences are equally diverse, performing as a vocalist with roots in the raw energy of hip-hop and the complex layers of mixture bands.
This recent trip to Okinawa embodied her philosophy of living in the moment. Despite typhoon warnings and turbulent skies, Nagao and her friends proceeded with a positive mindset. Upon arrival, they were met with heavy rain and wind, even getting lost for forty minutes on what should have been a short drive.
However, Nagao found beauty in the chaos. Standing drenched but laughing, she noted that a journey does not need to be perfect. For her, the essence of freedom and happiness lies in the ability to enjoy the present moment, whether through her art, her music, or her travels.
As she continues to express herself through the fusion of music and art, her ultimate goal remains clear: a world-tour live performance journey.
