Workshop on Children’s Elimination: A New Perspective for Childcare Professionals

TOKYO – A specialized workshop, “Children’s Elimination Seminar: Essential Knowledge for Childcare Support Professionals,” is set to be held, addressing the growing issue of delayed toilet training among children. The seminar, organized by experts including a Postpartum Doula and advisor on natural diaper removal, will take place on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (JST), with both in-person (at a Midwife Salon in Shinagawa, Tokyo) and online (Zoom) attendance options.

The workshop challenges the conventional wisdom that “diaper removal happens naturally,” highlighting how the widespread use of high-performance disposable diapers has contributed to delays in children achieving independence in elimination. This postponement can lead to negative experiences for children and parents, and potential subsequent issues such as constipation and bladder function troubles.

Key Learning Points:
• Changes observed in contemporary children’s bodies.
• The actual reasons behind the delay in toilet training.
• New perspectives on elimination support that professionals should know.

Target Audience:
The seminar is primarily aimed at childcare support professionals, including midwives, public health nurses, nurses, nursery school teachers, kindergarten teachers, sitters, baby massage/weaning instructors, physical therapists, and acupuncturists. Parents currently raising children are also welcome to attend.

Participation Details:
• Date & Time: Sunday, November 30, 2025, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM JST.
• Location: Midwife Salon in Shinagawa, Tokyo (in-person) and Online via Zoom.
• Fees:
• In-person: ¥2,800 (includes materials and refreshments).
• Online Early Bird (until October 31): ¥1,800.
• Online (from November 1): ¥2,000.
• Online registration opens: Sunday, October 19, 2025.

The event is more than a simple lecture; it aims to be a platform for sharing current field issues, deepening understanding of the challenges surrounding modern parenting, and fostering empathy toward parents and children struggling with elimination independence. Topics will also connect elimination independence with the development of a child’s understanding of their private zone and future sex education.
